Evans: I will discuss visa regime liberalization with Ambassador Ferguson(VIDEO)

FENA

SARAJEVO, May 28 (FENA) – Liberalization of the visa regime between Great Britain and Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of the topics of today's meeting of the British Parliamentary Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) with members of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Delegation to the IPU.

The UK Delegation arrived yesterday for a several-day official visit to BiH, and today's meeting in Sarajevo with the members of the BiH PA Delegation to the IPU was the first in a row that the British Delegation will hold with BiH officials.

Chairman of the BiH PA Delegation to the IPU Nenad Lalić said that the United Kingdom, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, NATO and other important international organizations, was a significant foreign trade and political partner for BiH.

During the meeting, the collocutors discussed the improvement of economic cooperation, as well as the simplification of the visa regime between the two countries and the efforts to accelerate the process, bearing in mind the fact that Great Britain is not a signatory to the Schengen agreement.

After the meeting, the chairman of the British Parliamentary Delegation to the IPU, Nigel Evans, also addressed the press, noting that he will also discuss the liberalization of the visa regime tonight with the Ambassador of Great Britain to BiH Edward Ferguson.

Evans said that BiH traditionally represented a "magnet" for tourists from the UK who visit it in large numbers and expressed the hope that BiH tourists would also visit their country and that they would not be limited by the visa regime in doing so.

He particularly stressed that, although Britain is leaving the European Union, that did not mean leaving Europe, and that this visit proves that Great Britain is interested in cooperation with countries in the region.

Mr. Evans, who is also the chairman of the International Trade Commission, noted that Britain, after it leaves the EU, will now for the first time be able to sign trade agreements by itself.

He added that the topics of the discussion were also the improvement of trade relations with BiH and the strengthening of support for the fight against terrorism, metal industry, services and agriculture.

During the day, the Parliamentary Delegation of Great Britain will meet with the BiH Council of Ministers Chairman, Denis Zvizdić, and the members of the BiH Presidency.

Working visits of the British delegation to Mostar and Banja Luka were announced for the next two days.
