FBiH Government - Minimum pension increased by 3.1 percent

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, May 24 (FENA) - At today's session in Sarajevo, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted a decision to increase the amount of the minimum pension by 3.1 percent, starting from the pension calculation for May 2018. The FBiH Institute for Pension and Disability Insurance was tasked with the implementation of this decision.

The Government adopted this decision after receiving the information on the financial situation in the FBiH Institute for Pension and Disability Insurance from 23 May 2018.

As stated, the financial situation in this institution is satisfactory. Namely, pension payments are regular and with an ever smaller amount of used credit. At the same time, the accumulated deficit in the first four months of 2018 was reduced by additional 25 million KM compared to the end of 2017.

Despite the increase in pensions in March and April this year, and on the basis of the increased costs of their payment, positive business results were achieved.

On the favorable financial situation in FBiH Institute for Pension and Disability Insurance, the most significant impact was the increase in revenues from contributions for the first four months of 2018 by 43 million KM or by 7.6 percent in relation to the plan.

Pursuant to Article 81 of the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, there is a possibility for the extraordinary adjustment of the minimum pensions, up to the growth rate of the real gross domestic product. Based on the statement of the FBiH Bureau of Statistics on March 30, the estimate of real GDP growth for 2017 is 3.1 percent.

The financial effects in the event of an extraordinary adjustment of the minimum pensions by 3.1 percent will amount to 14,870,856 KM in 2018, the Public Relations Office of the FBiH Government stated.
