SARAJEVO, May 23 (FENA) - Security Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Mektić said today in Sarajevo that the Council of Ministers of BiH has adopted and verified the conclusions from the previous session regarding the solutions for tackling the migrant crisis.

“Today, we unanimously adopted the conclusions and the minutes, together with the plan of emergency measures and actions that we need to carry out. There is a general consensus in the Council of Ministers regarding the conduct of all the competent institutions in relation to this issue,” said Mektić.

Citing some of the measures to be taken, he said that the border protection should be strengthened, along with the capacities of the Border Police, and hold talks with the neighboring countries.

“It is now the job of the coordinating body, which, due to the current migrant issue, has been given the status of an operational body, to implement the emergency measures plan, together with all the institutions in BiH at all levels, and to control and manage this migration crisis,” explained Mektić.

Asked to comment on some of the statements saying that the placement of migrants at the Salakovac Refugee Center was not in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH, because it was not verified, Mektić clarified that the decision on the Salakovac Center was passed in 2006, "that it is in fact a refugee center for the people in readmission procedure, on the basis of their recognized status".

“The status of this center was determined 12 years ago and we are now acting in line with those decisions. The same goes for the Asylum Center in Delijaš, and now when a group of migrants needs to be sent there, it would be redundant to adopt those same decisions all over again,” Mektić explained.

He stated that the center Bihać is in fact a dormitory, with more than 100 migrants currently placed there. It is an ad hoc asylum center.

As for the recent developments in relation to the situation with migrants at the location of Ivan-sedlo, he believes that the final ruling on this issue will be given by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

“All that we have been doing has been in accordance with the law and the competences of individual institutions,” said Mektić.
