FENA

SARAJEVO, May 20 (FENA) – Red Cross Society of BiH, that is, Red Cross of the Federation of BiH (FBiH), assumed the commitment to secure food and hygienic supplies for migrants who have been transferred to a refugee center in Salakovac near Mostar for a certain period of time.

“There are 270 to 290 persons there and we will try and secure meals for the first 15 days of their stay from our own resources in the first stage and then the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will take over the next 15 days,” explained Secretary General of the Red Cross of FBiH Namik Hodžić.

He told FENA they expect the state institutions to secure resources for meals and complete care for migrants in BiH, noting that UNICEF and UNHCR are also involved in the process, as well as some other governmental and non-governmental organizations.

He said it is positive that BiH state institutions decided to get engaged in solving the situation with migrants, specifically in Sarajevo, and he reminded that the Red Cross in Una-Sana Canton, in Bihać, have been taking care of migrants for a while by providing temporary accommodation.

He noted that UNHCR offered part of the capacity for accommodation and admission of migrants and refugees in Salakovac and Riyasat of the Islamic Community in BiH also secured certain resources to help the migrants.

Secretary General of the Red Cross of FBiH said they established cooperation with the Red Cross and Red Crescent of Italy, Swiss Red Cross and “World Vision“, who are ready to help the Red Cross of BiH in supporting migrants.
