SARAJEVO, May 10 (FENA) - The Ombudsman for Human Rights of BiH Jasminka Džumhur and her associates visited today the Foreigners’ Affairs Service and talked with Director Slobodan Ujić and his deputy Mirsad Buzar about the current issue of the increased influx of migrants in BiH.
Ujić je informed Džumhur about the current situation with the increased migrant inflow in BiH and pointed out that the service has registered 3,500 migrants since January 2018, which is three times more than the total number of registered migrants in BiH in 2017.
Ujić pointed out that the Foreigners’ Affairs Service regularly registers migrants, and takes biometric data in an effort to manage migrations in BiH, together with other competent institutions, regardless of very difficult circumstances.
Džumhur emphasized that it is necessary to achieve the best possible cooperation among the competent institutions in order to protect human rights of migrants who use BiH only as a transit country to the EU countries, but also that the institutions must take into serious consideration the safety of BiH citizens.
Ujić emphasized that the competent institutions will coordinate their operations with the highest level state institutions, find solutions for additional accommodation capacities that would be outside urban parts of cities (Sarajevo, Bihać, Velika Kladuša) and move migrants to these locations, stated the Foreigners’ Affairs Service.
