SARAJEVO, May 8 (FENA) - United States Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Maureen Cormack reiterated today that the rule of law was a major challenge and the most important framework for the successful future of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“I have been here (in BiH) for over three years now and I have constantly been saying that the rule of law is the most important framework for a successful future of BiH,” Ambassador Cormack said during a visit to the Center for Education of Judges and Prosecutors in the FBiH (CESTFBiH), organized for the occasion of the official opening of two renovated training halls, which were partly equipped thanks to the donations of the US Embassy to BiH.

After meeting and talking with the Director of the CESTFBiH Arben Murtezić, the US Ambassador emphasized the importance that the entity judges and prosecutors' training centers had in the training and professional development of the holders of judicial functions in BiH, and in the context of the more effective fight against corruption and all forms of crime.

Answering a journalists’ question on the achieved level of rule of law in BiH, Ms. Cormack expressed her concern in this respect, underlining that the rule of law in BiH is still a great challenge, and that in order to improve the situation in this field, quality and educated personnel are needed to tackle this challenge.

“In order to overcome the influence of corruption and political influence, there is a need for the critical mass of such people who will work together to overcome these challenges and face them,” Ambassador Cormack said, stressing that in order to have the true rule of law in BiH needs focus on supporting institutions that have the capacity to effectively work on this plan.

CESTFBiH Director Arben Murtezić said that the latest US support/donation was just a small part of what the US Government has been doing for the judiciary in BiH for many years, recalling the fact that the building of the FBiHCEST, at the time of its move in 2009, was largely equipped thanks to the support of the US Government.

The US Embassy to BiH provided 60,000 USD for the equipment and reconstruction of the aforementioned training halls and other premises of the CESTFBiH, which was realized in partnership with the Turkish Development Agency (TIKA).

In this way, the CESTFBiH was equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for education, including interactive learning system, simultaneous interpretation equipment and new booths, as well as video-link and appropriate lighting and sound equipment.
