Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s support for a safer and secure environment in BiH

SARAJEVO, May 7 (FENA) - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has secured USD 940,000 for the completion of infrastructure works at the ammunition storage site of the Armed Forces of BiH ‘Krupa’ in Hadzici, as part of the ‘Explode +’ project which is being implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP BiH).

The agreement was signed today in Sarajevo by Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Bosnia and Herzegovina Hani bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Mominah and Resident Representative of UNDP BiH Sezin Sinanoglu.

The signing this agreement, which contributes in a direct way to strengthening the security standards of ammunition storage, as well as the capacities to deal with surplus weapons, was welcomed by its signatories and the Deputy Minister of Defense of BiH for Policy and Planning Sead Jusić, as well as General Ali bin Ibrahim Al Fawaz, who heads the delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a visit to BiH.

“This is a very important day, the day of strengthening the bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said the Saudi Ambassador to BiH Hani bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Mominah in a statement to the press, adding that this is an extremely significant donation for BiH and its Armed Forces.

He recalled the fact that King of the Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud gave orders to continue to support to Bosnia and Herzegovina in all major sectors for its prosperity, including the area of ​​strengthening a secure environment.

Resident Representative of UNDP BiH Sezin Sinanoglu expressed gratitude for the Saudi support to strengthening the security environment in BiH, adding that the obsolete and unstable ammunition in BiH continues to pose a threat to all its citizens.

At the same time, she emphasized that UNDP is working on solving this problem in direct cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of BiH and the Armed Forces, as well as with a number of international partners, with a focus on solving surplus and unstable ammunition and improving infrastructure in ammunition storages.

The act of signing the said agreement was also greeted by General Ali bin Ibrahim Al Fawaz, who heads the High Saudi delegation during their visit to BiH, who said that the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is working on establishment of peace and stability in all parts of the world.

The sum of nearly one million dollars will enable the completion of the necessary infrastructure and security interventions at the location of the ammunition storage site ‘Krupa’ in Hadžići, and contribute to the overall increase in storage security and the efficiency of the management of ammunition and mine-explosive ordnance (MiMES) which is the responsibility of the MoD and the Armed Forces of BiH.

The ‘Explode +’ project, as a multi-donor platform for improving security standards, is implemented by MoDBiH and UNDP, supported by the Federal Republic of Germany, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Kingdom of Norway, the United States of America, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and EUFOR.
