SARAJEVO, May 3 (FENA) - A group of experts will tomorrow present their plan for the Western Balkans and Bosnia and Herzegovina at the American Institute for Peace (USIP) in Washington.
Cameron Munter, Director of the East West Institute, confirmed in a statement for ‘Dnevni avaz’ that they will present a study entitled "Time for Action in the Western Balkans, Political Recommendations to the US Diplomacy" to the public as well as to representatives of the US Administration.
- The Western Balkans - BiH, Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia are once again a region of stagnation and instability. The reasons for this lie in poor governance, influence of external factors and tensions in relations between ethnic groups and countries in the region. A report by the National Committee on US Foreign Policy and the East West Institute highlights the need for an urgent and resolute US and EU response in order to prevent instability and possible eruption of violence - it is stated in the announcement of this event on the USIP website.
Ambassador Sarah Mendelson will moderate the presentation of the report and the debate that should follow. The report will be presented by Munter, who was until recently the US Ambassador to Serbia, together with Frank Wisner, formerly senior State Department official, and Jonathan Levitsky, one of the former advisors to Richard Holbrooke.
“We want to ensure the focused attention of the USA and the EU on the Western Balkans, which, according to my opinion, has been neglected over the past ten years. BiH is among the tasks that the West needs to focus on,” Munter said in an interview for Dnevni avaz.
