Members of BiH Presidency meet with Matviyenko

SARAJEVO, April 24 (FENA) - Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina met today with the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko.

Matviyenko conveyed greetings from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to members of the Presidency of BiH.

Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Russian Federation have good and stable relations and share more than 20 years of diplomatic relations.

Multilateral cooperation with BiH and the countries in the region is a priority for the Russian Federation, highlighted Matviyenko at the meeting.

Both sides underlined mutually beneficial interest to further develop and improve overall bilateral relations in all aspects, particularly in the fields of economy and foreign trade.

The interest of the Russian side is to open the BiH market for Russian companies interested in investing, especially in the oil industry, with great importance being placed on activating economic cooperation within the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Russian Federation.

The two sides also discussed the need to improve cooperation in the segments of science, technology, culture, education and humanitarian activities.

The Russian delegation, which is on a multi-day visit to BiH, considers it very important to establish systemic cooperation at parliamentary level with inter-parliamentary dialogue.

The BiH Presidency members expressed the commitment of BiH to join the European Union, and Chairwoman Matviyenko expressed respect for BiH's commitment to joining the European Union and emphasized that Russia respects the decision of all levels of government in BiH to develop good relations with the Russian Federation at the same time.

Matviyenko also expressed the attitude of Russia which is support for BiH sovereignty, maintaining peace and stability and preserving the integrity of the country. Also, it is unequivocal attitude of the Russian Federation is that the Dayton Peace Agreement must be respected.
