BANJA LUKA, April 24 (FENA) - Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Assembly Valentina Matviyenko said today in Banja Luka that her country was glad that Republika Srpska (RS) policy is consistent and focused on friendship with Russia.

“Russia has always been and will always be a true friend of the Serb people,” Ms. Matviyenko said.

After meeting with RS President Milorad Dodik, she stressed at a press conference that Russia and RS were bound by friendly and fraternal ties.

“Thanks to the personal efforts of Mr. Dodik and his team and our own efforts, we have succeeded in improving and advancing the Russian-Serb relations and adding positive dynamics,” Ms. Matviyenko said.

She reiterated that her country was against NATO enlargement in Europe.

“We are against the militarization of European countries, new lines of separation that are being created in that way. Such moves are worsening the security situation on the European continent. Security can only be united and indivisible for all countries. European security is not possible without Russia, just like the Russian security is not possible without Europe, she said, adding that her country wants to lead a dialogue on this issue with its partners.

She stressed that the economic cooperation between RS and Russia makes up 75 percent of the overall cooperation between BiH and Russia and expressed gratitude to Mr. Dodik for his efforts to, as she said, strengthen humanitarian ties and build a Russian-Serb center.

Mr. Dodik said that RS was satisfied and proud of good relations with the Russian Federation and wanted to raise these relations to an even higher level.

“Our cooperation on political issues is clear and I want to thank Russian President Vladimir Putin for having a balanced attitude towards the Dayton Peace Accords, preservation of peace and cooperation,” Mr. Dodik said.

“Our cooperation with the EU cannot be at the expense of cooperation with the Russian Federation and issues that are of interest to us,” the entity president said.

Mr. Dodik informed Ms. Matviyenko about "the decisive attitude of RS about military neutrality, which is also reflected in the parliamentary resolution."

“We are not working on any issue related to strengthening the ties with any military alliance. Our resolution obliges all institutions to demonstrate a neutrality policy, including NATO,” he argues.

“The construction of the Russian-Serb Orthodox Center is proof of our connection,” Mr. Dodik added.
