OSCE-organized training course for prosecutors commences at BiH Court

SARAJEVO, April 23 (FENA) - In the framework of OSCE's war crimes trial monitoring program, on 23 April 2018 a three-day training course for prosecutors, dubbed “Advocacy skills in war crimes cases,” commenced at the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Acting Prosecutor General of BiH Gordana Tadić gave a speech to the participants of the gathering who will participate in the expert workshops and along with the international experts, exchange experiences on skills of case advocacy, witness examination and evidence presentation in the courthouse.

Ms. Tadić stressed that the Special Department for War Crimes has 28 prosecutors who work with investigators, expert assistants and other specialized staff and that from its establishment until today the prosecutors have issued indictments against over 800 persons.

“Over the course of 2017, the prosecutors in the Special Department for War Crimes issued 38 indictments against 89 persons, and on the basis of those indictments, the BiH Court last year imposed prison sentences in the total length of 155 years,” she said.

The workshops will be run by U.S. attorneys James R. Gailey, Allen Snyder and Judge of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina Minka Kreho.

The introductory part of the conference was addressed by the BiH HJPC vice-president and president of the Supervisory Body for Monitoring the Implementation of the National War Crimes Processing Strategy Jadranka Lokmić-Misirača, the OSCE representative Joeri Maas and representative of the EU Delegation to BiH Lejla Hrustanović, as well as Mr. Gailey, Mr. Snyder and Ms. Kreho, the BiH Prosecutor’s Office stated.
