SARAJEVO, April 20 (FENA) - BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Mirko Šarović met today with the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to BiH, Hideyuki Sakamoto, in order to plan stronger economic cooperation between the two countries and measures to improve the conditions for investing in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“One of the focus of the Ministry's work in the coming period will be to reduce customs duties and alignment with the countries of the region. It is unacceptable that the import duty on vehicles in BiH is 15 percent, while in Serbia it is 12 percent, and in Montenegro only 5 percent. In addition to this issue, it is necessary to work on facilitating the import and registration of eco vehicles, to which other countries pay more attention,” Minister Šarović said.
Ambassador of Japan pointed out that there was a great deal of interest in investing in BiH, but that BiH must work intensely on improving the business climate. The meeting discussed the program of the Minister’s planned visit to Japan in order to present in the best possible way the potential of BiH and the competitiveness of the economy and attract significant investments by Japanese companies.
The Ambassador also expressed the gratitude to Minister Šarović for supporting the candidacy of Osaka for the International Exhibition Expo 2025, whose goal is to design the vision of the future of a sustainable economy and society,” the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations stated.
