FM Crnadak meets with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir

SARAJEVO, April 19 (FENA) – BiH Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak met today with the Representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir.

The focus of the talks between Mr. Crnadak and Mr. Désir was the freedom of media in BiH, the digitalization process in BiH, the problem of public broadcasters, the security of journalists and the legal regulation of online media, the BiH Foreign Ministry said.

During the conversation, Mr. Crnadak stressed the importance of the role the media should play in the process of further democratization and development of the society.

Mr. Crnadak emphasized that special attention should be paid to the issue of public broadcasters because their impartiality and professionalism are of enormous importance, especially given the fact that general elections in BiH will be held in October 2018, and impartiality of the media is a prerequisite for securing democratic and fair conditions for their holding.

Mr. Désir invited Mr. Crnadak to be one of the speakers at the opening of the Fifth Media Freedom Conference in the Western Balkans, to be held on May 10 and 11, 2018 in Struga, Macedonia, where the topics will be the role of public broadcasters and security in journalists' work, the statement reads.
