Croatian and BiH delegations discuss cooperation in protection and rescue

SARAJEVO, April 19 (FENA) - Delegation of the Republic of Croatia, led by the Director of the State Protection and Rescue Administration Dragan Lozančić met today in Sarajevo with the delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by Assistant Minister of Security of BiH for Protection and Rescue Samir Agić.

They discussed the ways of strengthening cooperation in the field of protection and rescue with the focus on action in the event of extraordinary circumstances, i.e. natural and other disasters.

Director of Croatian State Protection and Rescue Administration Dragan Lozančić stressed his satisfaction with the continuity of cooperation in the civil protection system, i.e. the level of partnership achieved in the field of assistance to the citizens of the two neighboring countries in response to specific challenges.

“We are opening a new chapter in Croatia, given that we have a new national security strategy and we have a new law on the coordination of the system of national security. Civil protection has become central and represents one of the pillars of national security,” Mr. Lozančić said in a statement given during the break.

Responding to a journalist's question regarding the fire protection and cooperation segment, the Director of the Croatian State Protection and Rescue Administration reminded that the last "fire season" was extremely difficult for all Mediterranean countries and that there was a good will to provide cross-border assistance.

It is, as he said, a segment in which the European Commission encourages members of the European Union (EU) to help one another, but also to non-EU countries.

In this context, he underlined the readiness of Croatia to continue to provide assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina in time of need as well as other countries in accordance with its available capacities.

Assistant Minister of Security of BiH for Protection and Rescue Samir Agić told reporters that, in line with the BiH Council of Ministers' decision on the formation of inter-state bilateral cooperation commissions, the talks, besides guests, are attended by all relevant entities from BiH.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is trying to get into the EU Civil Protection Mechanism as soon as possible and this is one of the issues in which we will ask our colleagues from Croatia to support us in the relevant EU structures,” Mr. Agić emphasized.
