SARAJEVO, April 4 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović received representatives of the Rohingya people who informed him about the current situation in Myanmar and the suffering of that people.
The delegation was led by the president of the Arakan Rohingya National Organization (ARNO) Nurulislam Jaafar, president of the RICAA organization Myint Rijaz and director of the "Rohingya People's Research Center" Ataullah Nurulislam Ata.
Representatives of the Rohingya Muslims informed Mr. Izetbegović that the members of their people have been repeatedly exposed to killings and persecution since 1962, as well as all forms of denial of basic human rights, carried out by the Buddhist majority. They underlined that in the last six years a new campaign of persecution and crimes against the Rohingya has taken place, which resulted in thousands of murders and ethnic cleansing, leading to hundreds of thousands of members of this people being expelled from Myanmar.
They stressed the indolent attitude of the international community, which did not do enough to stop the suffering of their people and to help those who were forced to seek shelter in the territories of other countries.
Chairman Izetbegović expressed his sympathy and understanding for the position of Rohingya, stressing that he expects a more active engagement of the international community, especially the Muslim countries, with the aim of stopping the suffering and the humanitarian disaster.
He stressed that he would do anything within his capabilities and competencies to assist the Rohingya, the BiH Presidency said.
