SARAJEVO, April 4 (FENA) – The end of the project called "1.601 roses for 1.601 flowers" was marked today with the symbolic releasing of pigeons and planting of roses in the park at the "Memorial to the Children Killed in the Siege of Sarajevo 92-95".
President of the Association of Parents of Children Killed in the Siege of Sarajevo 1992-1995, Fikret Grabovica, says this is a significant project within the framework of which 1,601 roses were planted for the children killed during the siege of Sarajevo.
Mr. Grabovica described this as a significant contribution to the culture of commemoration and the truth that needs to be kept from forgetting, for the young people and future generations.
According to some data, 1,601 children were killed in Sarajevo during the war. Association of the Parents of Children Killed in the Siege of Sarajevo 1992-1995 has at its disposal the relevant documentation for 532 children who were killed in Sarajevo during the war. In their memory, a memorial has been placed in the city center. They state that for objective or subjective reasons they will not be able to acquire information about all the children who were killed in Sarajevo in that period.
