SARAJEVO, April 3 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina's Presidency Chairman Bair Izetbegović received Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Palmer.
The collocutors exchanged views on the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
Chairman Izetbegović conveyed to Mr. Palmer and US Ambassador to BiH Maureen Cormack the view that the new strategy of the European Commission for the Western Balkans provides a realistic opportunity for BiH to meet the conditions for EU membership by 2025 and that the implementation of the Strategy will positively influence the resolution of open issues that the countries in the region have with each other.
Chairman Izetbegović pointed out that the amendments to the electoral legislation are a matter of concern to all citizens and political entities, which is why the only enforceable and sustainable solutions are those for which there is a broad consensus of all parliamentary parties, regardless of whether they are in the government or the opposition, as well as that any solution should not be in contravention of the FBiH Constitution.
The collocutors emphasized the continuing support that the US is providing to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the implementation of reforms and the establishment of the rule of law as well as in the accelerated fulfillment of the conditions for BiH's membership in Euro-Atlantic integrations, the BiH Presidency said.
