SARAJEVO, April 3 (FENA) – For the first time in BiH, seven thousand students of the first grades of secondary schools tomorrow will test their knowledge and skills in three areas: reading, mathematics and science, within the framework of the PISA assessment (Program for International Student Assessment).

“Based on that, we will see how effective nine-year primary education is in all ten Cantons. It will show in what segments education in BiH has failed, i.e. where these shortcomings are in the overall education reform,” said FBiH Minister of Education and Science Elvira Dilberović in an interview with FENA.

The importance of the assessment, she says, is reflected in the focus not being on the reproduction of education and existing curricula, but on literacy in reading, mathematics and sciences.

This means that BiH has joined the seventh cycle of the PISA program, which is implemented under the auspices of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 82 countries of the world.

She pointed out that the PISA program will not individually assess the participating students and teachers of the secondary schools, as this program will offer a comprehensive analysis of the overall state of education in BiH.

“The results will be more than important to us as a reference and a foundation for discovering what is it in which we have failed and show us the future courses of action in the educational system. The students will fill in a questionnaire that shows their relationship with free time, interests, external factors, which influence their thinking and their awareness. The questionnaire will be also filled by principals,” said Ms. Dilberović.

On this occasion, she mentioned the Law on principles of adult education in the Federation of BiH, which is in parliamentary procedure.

It is intended, as she adds, that the law shall regulate the activities of adult education, general issues related to organization, financing, administration and management of the adult education process.
