Finci: Proposed changes to Election Law take the country several steps backwards

FENA Aida Kovač

SARAJEVO, April 2 (FENA) - President of the Jewish Community in BiH Jakob Finci told journalists in Sarajevo today that it is obvious from what we know so far, that the proposed amendments to the Election Law, lead Bosnia and Herzegovina not a step, but three steps backwards.

“To put it in simple words, we go back to a pure ethnic division, to a strict division, and I would not be surprised if in the end we see an agreement where every member of the constituent peoples is to vote on ballot papers of different color in order to know exactly who they voted for,” said Finci.

According to Finci, this puts all those "who do not live in the right part of the territory", those who are minorities or as we call it “the others”, but also the members of the constituent peoples in a horribly difficult situation.

“This means that Serbs who live in the Federation of BiH have no one to vote for, Bosniaks or Croats living in RS have no one to vote for, because it seems that the leaders have agreed not to allow members of one nation to elect members of another nation, and they offer us no other choice. Thanks to this, several hundred thousand citizens, and not just three percent, as Mr. Čovć claims, de facto would lose their voting rights, and that is certainly not the path towards Europe that we have envisaged and is not something that Europe expects from us” stressed Finci.
