SARAJEVO, April 1 (FENA) - I express utter condemnation with Israeli attacks, unnecessary and totally disproportionate use of force towards unarmed Palestinian civilians who intended to peacefully protest to draw attention f the world to their extremely difficult position, told FENA the BiH Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović.
Asked to give a statement after the incidentsin which 17 Palestinians were killed and more than 1,400 were injured during the marking of the Land Day, commemoration of the six Palestinians killed 42 years ago in protests over the occupation of Palestine, Izetbegović statedthat the Gaza Strip is on the verge of complete collapse caused by long-term blockades, severe economic sanctions and completely destroyed infrastructure.
He pointed out that the population of Gaza gets electricity only four hours a day, most of the population has no access to drinking water due to sewage contamination, and nearly 70 percent of the population lives on less than two dollars a day.
“I appeal to the international community, above all the United Nations and the EU, to take all possible measures within their jurisdiction to prevent further escalation of violence against Palestinian civilians, and to make additional effort to improve the basic living conditions for the population of Gaza,” said Izetbegović in a statement to FENA.
