Sarajevo-Belgrade motorway section through BiH would cost three billion euros

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 29 (FENA) - Minister of Communications and Transport of BiH Ismir Jusko and Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Ahmet Arslan discussed in Sarajevo today the current activities that the Turkish side is implementing on the project of building a modern road communication between Sarajevo and Belgrade.

Arslan informed the BiH side that the analyses have shown the complexity of the entire project, especially highlighting the terrain that the roads should pass through. In that sense, he noted that on the route of the motorway passing through BiH, from Sarajevo to Tuzla to the border with Serbia and from Sarajevo towards Višegrad to the border with Serbia, it is necessary to build about 133 bridges in total length of 25.8 kilometers, as well as 53 tunnels,  with total length of 37.5 kilometers.

The Turkish minister added that based on the length of the routes and the accompanying facilities on the routes that go through BiH it has been determined that the value of the project is about 3 billion euros.

The financial construction of the project, i.e. the method and models of financing, should be known by June this year.

Jusko briefed the Turkish minister about the issue of traffic licenses for BiH cargo drivers, and asked the minister for transport liberalization.

Arslan expressed interest in liberalization and requested that the delegations of the two countries be appointed and meet as soon as possible in order to improve the operations of carriers of both countries, which both delegations accepted.

Minister Jusko also asked Minister Arslan that the Turkish side makes additional efforts to sign the agreement on recognition of driving licenses between the two countries as soon as possible, for which he also received the Turkish Minister's support.

The Turkish delegation emphasized the development of air transport and, for further improvement, proposed to improve the provisions of the existing agreement between BiH and Turkey in the upcoming period.

Minister Arslan invited Minister Jusko to attend opening of the new airport in Istanbul scheduled for 29 October 2018, stated the BiH Ministry of Communications and Transport.
