SARAJEVO, March 29 (FENA) - The Republic of Turkey is one of the most important, honest friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina that has never interfered with BiH's internal affairs but has always responded to calls for international support on BiH's path to the European Union and the NATO Alliance, it was highlighted after the delegations of BiH and Turkey met today in Sarajevo, headed by the BiH Council of Ministers Chairman Denis Zvizdić and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.

They also emphasized support for the economic development of BiH.

Mr. Zvizdić confirmed that they discussed the realization of BiH's strategic foreign policy goals, including European integration of BiH and further cooperation with NATO and he expressed hope that Turkey would continue to provide support and advocate for the possibility of activating the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP), which Mr. Zvizdić expects on one of the future meetings.

Mr. Zvizdić and Mr. Yıldırım announced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is supposed to visit BiH in mid-year when about a dozen agreements, including the Free Trade Agreement, are expected to be signed.

“Turkey expressed full readiness to guarantee meat exports from BiH for at least five consecutive years, which could provide to BiH farmers and Turkish investors long-term investment plans in this sector,” Mr. Zvizdić underlined.

Mr. Zvizdić also confirmed that the deadlines for the realization of loans granted by Turkey for development projects in the field of agriculture and other projects, especially for returnees, would be extended, which will enable them to plan loan-based projects in the long run.

The prime ministers also announced the continuation of economic cooperation in the sense of significantly attracting Turkish investments in BiH and reminded that Turkey was among the top ten trading partners of BiH and among top ten investors, and the volume of trade exchanges in the previous year was 1.2 billion KM.

“This trade has a tendency for growth and we have the potential to increase this level of trade to two billion KM by the end of 2019 with a special focus on the issue of export of agricultural products,” Mr. Zvizdić said.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım noted that Turkish investors have long been doing business in BiH, but there is an intention to increase their number although there is still much to be done.

A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to the construction of the Sarajevo-Belgrade motorway.
