BiH Prosecutor's Office - War rape suspect Saša Ćurčić arrested in Foča

SARAJEVO, March 28 (FENA) - Acting on the order of the Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes, SIPA police officers located, identified and detained the suspect Saša Ćurčić, born in 1960 in Foča, a citizen of BiH.

The suspect Ćurčić is under investigation and is suspected that in the summer of 1992, as a member of the RS Army (VRS), he acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Civilians during the War.

Ćurčić is suspected of committing a war crime of rape and sexual abuse by threatening and using violence against a Bosniak victim.

The suspect is under investigation and is charged with having committed the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity referred to in Article 172, paragraph 1, item d), forcing another person to sexual intercourse or with a similar sexual act of rape, in conjunction with Article 180, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After examining the suspect, the prosecutor in charge will submit a motion for detention in order to prevent the interference with the proceedings and the investigation will continue toward the indictment, the BiH Prosecutor's Office stated.
