SARAJEVO, March 25 (FENA) – Representatives of civil society organizations supported the City Council and Mayor of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka yesterday in their decision to present the recognition of the Honorary Citizen of the City of Sarajevo to former president of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesić.
Support was given by representatives of the Croat People’s Council of BiH, Serb Civic Council – Movement for Equality, Bosniak Cultural Society "Preporod" and Association of Independent Intellectuals - Circle 99.
In a joint press release they emphasized generally accepted public opinion that during war and peace, during the siege and post-war efforts in rehabilitation of our country Mesić has given immeasurable contribution to affirmation of Sarajevo in regional and international framework.
They noted that as a citizen and official, Mesić remained consistent in encouraging citizens of BiH in preserving culture of BiH way of life, but also the position of an independent and sovereign state of BiH.
“Mesić has spread the truth about Sarajevo and BiH even at times when it directly endangered his existence and political survival,” representatives of civil society in BiH concluded in their press release.
