RS Council of Peoples refuses to support Bosniaks' veto regarding Bosn. language

BANJA LUKA, March 21 (FENA) - At today's session of the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska (RS), the Bosniaks’ veto to the Law on Secondary Education, which they consider is denying the existence of the Bosnian language, that is, actually discriminates against Bosniaks, was not supported.

Unless an agreement is reached at the Joint Commission of the Council of Peoples and the National Assembly, the RS Constitutional Court will decide on the law.

On March 5, the Bosniak caucus filed a motion for the protection of a vital national interest to that law, indicating that it completely rejects the Bosnian language, since in the law treats the name of the language of the Bosniak people more generally than the RS Constitution does.

The Entity Constitution states that the language of the Serb people, the language of the Bosniak people and the language of the Croat people are in use in the RS, and now the Law on Secondary Education states the ”language of the constituent peoples”.

The Co-Chair of the RS Council of Peoples, Kemo Čamdžija, explained that they have submitted three amendments to this law, which require that the Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian languages be put in the law as the names of the language.

In the remaining amendments, they submitted their proposals regarding the way of constitution and the national structure of school boards, i.e. councils.

Mr. Čamdžija pointed out that there are almost no representatives of the Bosniak people in school boards and councils in the RS.

The Serb caucus considers that the Bosniak caucus' amendments should not be accepted.
