SARAJEVO, March 20 (FENA) – Members of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), 84 countries of the world, are marking the International Francophonie Day on March 20, and it was today marked with a special program in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which gained the observer status in 2010.

Thus, today were presented the most important OIF activities, as well as the program of cultural and promotional events that are organized from March 16th to March 31st in Sarajevo, Mostar, Banja Luka and Maglaj on the occasion of the Francophonie Day, within which visitors will be offered a rich and diverse program.

The BiH National Coordinator for Francophonie Almir Šahović reminded that the OIF is a political organization that gathers 84 countries of the world, of which 54 are members, four have the status of an associated member, and 26 of them are in the status of an observer among which is BiH with all the countries in the region.

“OIF, among other things, nurtures the French language, but also has a significant influence in mediation in the crisis areas in the world, and is also an important forum for establishing economic relations between the countries participating in its work,” emphasized Mr. Šahović.

Within the OIF operates the largest business club, which gathers the largest number of business people in the world in relation to all other international organizations, so Mr. Šahović expressed the hope that one of the topics at the Sarajevo Business Forum will be the deepening of the economic cooperation of the countries of the region with the OIF.

French Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Guillaume Jean Rousson said that the International Day of Francophonie celebrates friendly relations and cooperation between states and governments and that organization.

He quoted one of the founders of Francophonie, Habib Bourguibua, who said that language is a special family relationship that overcomes the ties of ideology with its power, and the French language, which is spoken by 274 million people in the world, complements cultural heritage, enriches thought, expresses action and contributes to the strengthening of intellectual fate.

"The Francophonie does not only share a language but also values, such as human rights, peace, democracy, education and economics, because the Francophony is one whole of the countries with economic opportunities, and in 2014, it also got its economic strategy that it intends to strengthen," the Ambassador said.

This year's Francophonie Days, intended for a wider audience, were opened with a concert of the BiH music group Jall aux Yeux, and the program also includes the gastronomic event "Taste of France", which France, after three previous successful editions, is organizing this year as well.

The “French Film Week" was opened on Monday with the work of Farid Bentoumi "Good Luck Algeria", and during the week several films from countries belonging to the OIF will be screened.

In addition, lectures will be held on francophone literature and language that will be hosted by Anis Nacrour, Ognjenka Savanović, Branko Crnogorac, Ana Vujović and Bojan Golemović and the exhibition "60 years of Smurfs", as well as concerts, exhibitions and performances.

This year's program is supported by international partners from Belgium, Greece, Romania, Egypt and Switzerland operating in Sarajevo and partners in BiH.
