SARAJEVO, March 19 (FENA) - Many religious leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina have more authority than politicians and it is very important that they use this authority for the common good, for reconciliation and for achieving a just society, said Special Envoy for the promotion of the freedom of religion or beliefs outside the European Union Ján Figel.

During his visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Figel took part in the work of the roundtable "Religion and secularity in new relationships" organized by the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in BiH.

“All members of society have their role and religious officials play a particularly important role because they inspire people and give them an example of how to live,” Mr. Figel emphasized.

Regarding the European path of BiH, he said that this road is built exclusively in BiH and that it depends on all its citizens.

The host of the roundtable, Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in BiH Husein ef. Kavazović said that everyone must respect the rules of an open society.

He emphasized that the Islamic Community follows this path and does not in any way favor exclusivity because it is not inherent to faith.

“All groups and all organizations that want to deal with faith should be transparent in their manifestation,” said Mr. Kavazović.

Metropolitan of Dabar-Bosna Chrysostom emphasized the importance of all people finding strength in themselves to understand others and accept them for everything they are.

The Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Cardinal Vinko Puljić, believes it is important that the state recognizes that there are religious communities that have their rights and responsibilities, but in order to do this, there must be determined a person who will communicate with churches and religious communities.

“It is very important to hear our attitudes that should be embedded in interpersonal relations,” said Cardinal Puljić.

The President of the Jewish Community in BiH, Jakob Finci, is pleased with the cooperation of religious communities in BiH and said that they can work together.

He believes this is a powerful message being sent to the world.
