MOSTAR, March 12 (FENA) - The Trade Union of doctors of medicine and dentistry of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC) staged a peaceful protest march on Monday morning in Mostar by which they drew attention to their demand regarding the negotiations on a new collective agreement.
About 300 doctors, students of medical school and citizens started this morning a protest march heading toward the HNC Government building with the banners reading "Your life is in our hands", "Open negotiations or shut down institutions", "If you do not have time for these doctors, look for another ones ".
- We both want and deserve, like all the other doctors in the FBiH, our negotiations and our collective agreement, which have not been provided for us until today - told journalists President of the Trade Union Kristina Bevanda, announcing work stoppage for March 19, when officially a general strike of doctors at the level of the entire canton begins.
The Trade Union of doctors of medicine and dentistry demands from the cantonal Government separate negotiations and the signing of a separate collective agreement for doctors of medicine and dentistry, as it has been done in other cantons, while the HNC Government insists on joint negotiations with representatives of all three unions of those employed in health care institutions and one collective agreement.
Dr Bevanda added that a meeting of representatives of the Union of Doctors of Medicine and Dentistry with the Prime Minister of the HNC, Nevenkom Herceg, was scheduled for tomorrow, March 13, when a possible solution would be discussed.
It was earlier announced that if a strike was staged on March 19, doctors would only treat patients whose lives were endangered and whose condition was threatened by permanent disability.
Oncologic patients and pregnant women will be treated in regular order, and everything else will be on hold.
