MOSTAR, March 6 (FENA) - The amendments to the Election Law in BiH were not a topic of the trilateral meeting of Presidents of Serbia, Croatia and BiH.
President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic told reporters that she could only encourage BiH Presidency members to reach an agreement as soon as possible, as well as to show that political forces in BiH are capable to find solutions that are extremely important to this country.
- I think it would ultimately be the worst possible option that the international community imposed BiH solutions - said Grabar-Kitarovic, adding that the best way for BiH is the one toward the EU.
Croatia’s President added that Croatia, as a signatory of the Washington Agreement and the guarantor of the implementation of the Dayton Agreement, was obliged to closely watch on the processes in BiH.
- We hold that the changes to the Election Law, in accordance with the constitutional decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH and the decisions of international bodies such as in the Sejdic-Finci case, are necessary to ensure the Dayton principles without any interference in internal affairs - said Grabar-Kitarovic, reiterating that the Republic of Croatia truly supports these fundamental Dayton principles, not certain solutions, adding that it is up to the leaders of BiH to assume responsibility for ensuring its better future.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic pointed out that Serbia kept vigilant eyes on all relations in BiH.
- We support the Dayton Agreement, constitutionality and equality of the three nations, the existence of two entities in BiH and the territorial integrity of BiH. That is important for us, and everything else is up to the peoples and their representatives in BiH to agree upon -Vucic said.
BiH Presidency Chairman Draga Covic said that they informed the presidents of the states and expressed the expectation that "on our side the Electoral Law will be changed in regular parliamentary procedure to comply with Constitutional Court decisions on legitimate representation of constituent peoples at all administrative levels of government".
- We did not specify it in detail, we stressed if this happened we would have a dynamic period ahead. If it fails, a lot of challengers will be ahead of us - said Covic.
BiH Presidency member Bakir Izetbegovic said that it was an internal issue of BiH.
BiH Presidency member Mladen Ivanic holds that the situation is harder than we think, adding that the coming months will be heavily burdened by the topic.
Ivanic also believes that the statement from the international community that they will wait for an answer until April is an alibi to all participants not to do anything.
