Juncker to BiH PA officials: Find solution to Election Law amendments by May

SARAJEVO, February 28 (FENA) - European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker today appealed to senior officials of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to reach a compromise by May regarding the amendments to the BiH Election Law.

Mr. Juncker met today with the Chairperson of the BiH PA House of Representatives, Borjana Krišto and Chairperson of the BiH PA House of Peoples Ognjen Tadić, as well as with their deputies Mladen Bosić, Šefik Džaferović, Safet Softić and Bariša Čolak. The meeting was also attended by the European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn and Head of EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark.

The President of the European Commission also pointed out the fact that the Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee between the BiH PA and the European Parliament (SAPC), and stressed that it was important for both parliaments to resolve this issue.

With the assessment that Mr. Juncker's visit and the submission of responses to the EC Questionnaire represent a serious step forward for BiH on the road toward the EU, leaders of both BiH PA houses have stressed the BiH's commitment to EU principles and goals, as well as the determination of all that BiH becomes part of the EU.

Members of both houses’ collegiums underlined the fact that the issue of amendments to the BiH Election Law was the responsibility of the institutions and top officials in the country, the BiH PA PR Department said.

They also stressed that BiH wanted to continue making significant progress and economic development and have expressed the expectation that in this plan, as well as in all further steps on the European path, BiH would have the support and assistance of EU institutions.
