FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 26 (FENA) - Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdić took part in the prime ministers’ session of the Third Western Balkans Investment Summit in London organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

In his address, Zvizdić welcomed the organization of conferences aimed at cooperation and promotion of the region of the Western Balkans and emphasized the importance of the EBRD as one of the largest institutional investors in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Speaking about the priorities for regional projects, he pointed to the necessity of implementing infrastructure projects as soon as possible.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has significant potential and is rich in natural resources, and emphasizes that quality projects can further stimulate the economic development of BiH and the region.

He said that the countries of the region should define common interests and transform them into regional projects in the coming period.

The Western Balkans Prime Ministers’ Session was held after the official opening of the conference and welcoming addresses by EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti, Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov and UK Minister for International Development Lord Bates.

During the Prime Minister’ Session, there was talk of upcoming investments in infrastructure, especially in transport, but with possibilities for investment in both energy infrastructure and the upcoming digital connecting of the Western Balkans countries.

Zvizdic pointed out that what is very important for BiH and the whole region is the fact that everyone have understood that the lack of, first of all, transport infrastructure is one of the main reasons for the slow economic development of the entire region, and that this is a focus of further action of both, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as the European Investment Bank.

During the conference, an additional agreement with the EBRD was signed in the amount of 750 million euros for four sections on the 5C motorway in the length of about 70 kilometers, of which 500 million is designated for the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and 250 million for the territory of RS, which would help complete a significant section that will connect the entire territory of BiH, thus enabling new investments and a stronger flow of goods and people, and ultimately the economic development of BiH.

Ina addition to Chairman Zvizdić, Prime Ministers of the Western Balkans countries Edi Rama (Albania), Zoran Zaev (Macedonia), Ana Brnabić (Serbia), Duško Marković (Montenegro) and Ramush Haradinaj (Kosovo) are also taking part in the conference.
