STOLAC, Feb 14 (FENA) - The signing of an agreement between the Municipality of Stolac and the International Financial Corporation - IFC on the accession of the municipality to the Project for attracting investments and improving the economic climate at the local level –LIFE , took place on Wednesday at the premises of the Stolac Municipality.
The contract was signed by the Chief Executive of Stolac Municiplaity, Stjepan Boskovic, and the manager of LIFE project, Ruvejda Aliefendic, with the presence of British Ambassador to BiH, Edward Ferguson. The project is implemented by the World Bank Group in cooperation with the British Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Through the implementation of the LIFE project, Stolac Municipality will make a step forward in raising its private sector competitiveness by making efforts to reduce operating costs, shorten the time needed to obtain permits and approval, and by further increase in transparency in the work of municipal administration bodies it will move towards attracting investment.
Chief Executive of Stolac Municipality, Stjepan Boskovic, said this project was of great importance to the municipality and the development of private entrepreneurship, expressing hope that its implementation will restore the trust of the private sector in Stolac municipality.
For the economic zone of Stolac to come to the fore, Boskovic pointed out the importance of road infrastructure, i.e. good road communication, mentioning the Mostar-Stolac-Neum section, for which construction the tender should be announced by the middle of this year.
On the occasion, British Ambassador Ferguson assessed that the LIFE project with Stolac municipality was a very concrete and practical project that was being implemented throughout BiH.
- We are trying with our World Bank experts to simplify the procedures, reduce the time and costs of registering companies, and thus generally improve the business climate - said the British Ambassador.
He pointed out that these projects really had led to concrete results in the cities, i.e. the municipalities where they had been implemented so far, mentioning the example of Sarajevo where the number of registrations increased by 15 % and the time needed for registration reduced by 20 % .
"I hope that we will have the same in Stolac , if not better," said the British Ambassador.
After the signing of the contract, Ambassador Ferguson and Chief Executive Boskovic attended the event marking the beginning of the second phase of the "Active Citizens" project, which was funded by the Government of the United Kingdom. The event was organized by the British Council.
It is a project that carries out activities that motivate and educate young people from different parts of the Western Balkans to better understand the needs of their local communities and their position in the region, as well as to actively work on their development.
The project also strengthens the skills of young people needed for employment in the modern labor market, as well as their understanding of institutions' responsibilities regarding he needs and aspirations of young people.
Partners of British Council on the project are Nansen Dialogue Center Mostar, Red Cross of Zepce Municipality, and Smart Center of Cazin.
