Izetbegović - Dieng: Each case of hate speech must be sanctioned under the law

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 12 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency Member Bakir Izetbegović received today Adama Dieng, Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General for the Prevention of Genocide.

Izetbegović and Dieng agreed that it is highly worrying to see the cases of relativization and denial of genocide in Srebrenica and other war crimes, which have been present in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region for more than two decades after the onset of peace.

At the same time we have glorifying and rewarding of war crimes convicts, their appointment to public office, and the fact that they student dormitories and other institutions carry their names.

Such phenomena, as the two officials highlighted during the meeting, not only do not contribute to the process of reconciliation, but generate new divisions and hatred, sending a very bad message to young people and new generations.

Izetbegović and Dieng pointed out that, along with a continuous dialogue on establishing confidence, it is necessary to sanction each and every case of hate speech, including the denial of war crimes and genocide.

Dieng especially praised the project "Dialogue for the Future", initiated jointly by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the UN, stressing that this is the right way to establish dialogue and restore confidence among the peoples, not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also throughout the  region, stated the Presidency of BiH.
